Good Food for 2.5" Cichla

Hello, I just purchased what I was told was a Mono and plan to add a couple more. What is a good food to start him on? I hate to give him feeder guppies but at this point (less than a day in) I just can't see him coming to the top for pellets. Frozen?

He will probably go after chunks of frozen and you can try tossing in some good quality small sinking pellets.

If you can get PE Mysis, it'll be a sure fire hit. Its a bit expensive, but has huge amounts of protein and later on will make pellet training them much easier.

Got mine off live with freeze dried krill. It wouldn't touch anything else but took the krill immediately

Have you even tried it? Especially Hikari. They have something in there that fish tends to smell and triggers a taste. If that doesn't work, then go mysis, bloodworms, and/or earthworms (chopped up if too big).Once they're nice and fat, then pellet train.

I got some blackworms and they absolutely kill them. They're pricey though so I don't want this to last long. Figure I'll add sinking pellets at the same time and hopefully they'll start to take them.

I bought live blackworms. 3/4 lb should last a while too. Great for growing them out.
