I'm looking for some good gars to go into my 125g I'm going to get, I know Floridas will work but what about Shortnose? Longnose? Tropical? Cuban?

Depending on the size of the gar, it could last a year or two. I've had a pair of Florida gars in a 125g tank for over a year, and they're still doing fine and growing.
Its not a permanent home, however, as I am upgrading them to a 220g tank, as soon as i can get it set up. But it would work (at least for Florida's) for at least a year. But you have to plan on them outgrowing it, and either get a larger tank in the future, or rehome them to someone with a larger tank.

You could do the Needle Nose "gars" They aren't true gars but max out at a little over a foot if I am not mistaken.
I have 2 in a 75 atm.. they will need a larger tank very soon. One is less then 1yr. Both are 14"+ I was originally looking at a 120W but considering just biting the bullet and going to a 220.
