So I just picked up a 13-14 inch Tiretrack eel for $35 dollars yesterday. I might be picking up an 18-19 inch Fire Eel this weekend from a fellow member and should be getting a couple 6-7 inch Atajoba (SP????) Pike on Tuesday. I like to quarantine all my fish for a week or two and also get them eating the foods I have, so I would like to place both eels and the two Pike (if they are thick enough not to fit in the mouth of the eels) in a 75g temporarily, for 1-3 weeks. The 75g has been running for about 1.5yrs and has an Emp400, AC110, and an AC702 powerhead with a sponge that I rinse in tank water, I also do weekly water changes of 50-70%. Tank is bare and I can add a tube or two, a cave, and some silk plants to give both the eels and pike some cover.

Currently in the 75gal I have a Gulper I am rehoming and a 13-14 inch Jurense Cat that will be moved to my 180g or 240g.

So my question is am I pushing my bio load on my filters/powerhead and crowding them in the tank too much with these four fish? How about just the two eels in the 75g?

Thanks in advance.

Im not sure I understand buddy. You want to keep these fish with the Gulper??

Oh no. The Gulper and Jur cat will be out of the tank. Eels and the pike would only be inthe tank.

Should be fine if its temporary but the Pike might be an issue....

Thanks GR8, yup just temporary. If the pike become a problem I'll move some other fish around and move the pike. Is you concern the pikes might be aggressive towards the eels, pikes aggressive torwards each other, or a combination?

You could put a horizontal separator (eggcrate) half way up (down?) to give them their own space for the quarantine time.

I've always thought about doing that. Just didn't want to hassle with trying to figure out how to cut the eggcrate for all the pipes and wire as well as trying to fit it in the tank. Guess if I were to do it, cutting it into two pieces if I were to do it.

You could also put the pike in one of those cheap floating plastic containers with holes in them from the market.....

I've heard this before, what do these containers look like? I haven't be able to find them.

I have some smaller ones from when I use to have African Cichlids and I would keep the fry in them. The pikes would be too big for them. Are you talking about the clear ones with the colored tops?
