Hello! I have never really been interested in saltwater aquariums before, until I took a trip to my LFS today and was looking at the saltwater section and I thought, that may be something that I'd like to try and do with the empty 55 gallon I have sitting around! I have no idea of even the basics of a saltwater aquarium and I would appreciate it if you guys could recommend some websites for me about setting up and the maintenance of a saltwater aquarium. Please let me know, thanks!

I know one very good one www.****************

That's the website I used that got me into fish. And helped me.

Okay, thanks, I'll check it out. How do saltwater aquariums compare to freshwater (cost, maintenance, keeping fish healthy, etc.)?

not much different but you deff. need to pay more attention to water tests and water changes. SG is another measurement that should be taken daily!! cost is going to be alot higher if your doing reef. FOWLR setup will only be a little higher. disease can happen easily in both fresh and salt, so the normal good habbits with fresh should be applied. also the number of fish being kept will change big time. you should never use the 1" of adult fish per gallon rule!!

What are SG and FOWLR? (I'm COMPLETELY new to saltwater!) Is there a way to tell how many fish per gallon, or is it mainly about the bio load a fish has? Also, can anyone recommend any more websites? Thanks!

www.thereeftank.com The best ever! They are a really great bunch of hobbiests. And here on MFK I can answer most questions yiu have and If I can't I bet someone here can. LOL!

FOWLR stands for Fish Only With Live Rock, LR stands for Live Rock, SG stands for specific gravity, LS stands for Live Sand.
