If your looking for cichlids..I think the best place to go would be Empire Aquatics..all the way in Canastota(i think thats how you spell it)..he has the best variety of Africans..but little SA/CA...I go to Fairmount sometimes but hardly do I ever buy fish there..kinda pricey..you could also try Syracuse Aquarium in Jamesville..best place to buy fish tanks..also he has some good trade-ins at times..thats the place I go to the most to get my fish supplies along with tanks and food..theres also a new place that opened.. Ack's Exotic pets..not a lot of variety..but they do have fish..hehe..oh and theres on in Auburn..but forgot the name..But..do you happen to know if theres going to be a Fish Auction this year in Syracuse?..there was one last year..but I didnt make it..

Hey guys! AWESOME to see "locals" around this site. I have been going to a shop in Auburn for 2 years and they guy's name is Roy Greenfield. The shop is called the Tropical Fish Emporium, and its on Hardenburgh ave. I take RT 5 & 20 to the Bombardier Building (Giant Blue Metal sided building on the south side of 5 & 20) then turn right. Once I get to Genesee st I turn left then Hardenburgh is a quick left. The shop looks like an old barn, but its full of tanks. Roy's cool and friends of mine have gone there for almost 30 years. You'll get a kick outa his old Polyester shirts too haha. You may take a different route though as its on the south side of the city. Google or mapquest it. Its worth the trip. Have heard of Fairmount, but haven't made the trip yet.

Take care N Good luck!:headbang2

if you are into africans got to empire... goldfish koi empire... anything hard to find try acks he talks to a lot of breeders... sa/ca cichlids/salt water fairmount acks also does nice saltwater any reef stuff go see him and save some dough... carl is by far the fairest guy who will actually talk to you about what your doing... he has knowledable people and highly reputable breeders in his store consistantly.... i have had a few bad expiriences with empire as far as diesease goes... fairmount overstocks tanks at the momment but omg wait till you see the renovation goin down in that place next time you stop in ask them to show you outback...the nicest fish i have ever bought in my life was a gold saum i got from fairmount they had 6 in a 30 with a midas... they all were tore up and fairmount is notorious for stocking tanks like this.... but i brought him home through him into a 55 he was about 3 inches at the time and jeez did he become somethin... he is a beast and i love this fish... i usualy dont get attached to my stock but he is special... shop around man everyplace has its ups and downs we live in a garbage fish area compared to the south and west florida and cali that is.... new york isnt a huge fish state
