I am planning on adding 3 of any kind of livebearing fish to my EBJD growout tank. The livebearers would just be there to provide feeder fish for my JD and Convict that are in another tank. What I was wondering was what is the best livebearer to put in this tank, I would only do 3 of them and they would have to grow to a decent size so the parents won't get eaten or bullied when the EBJD grows up some more, Currently he is under 1'' so it'll be a while befere he is big enough to eat them. What do you think?

It's just something I'd like to do to add a little more entertainment to (both) of my tanks, believe it or not having an EBJD grow out isn't all that exciting. Also for a snack for my fish every once in a while, so 3 would do for what I have in mind.

Mollies would work too. I would use one male to five females

I have to second the mollies. I love the little guys. Not only do they eat algae they are also really fun to watch socialize with each other. But I would try a few more than three. I have 8 adults right now. 3 males and 5 females plus about ten or so fry of various ages in a planted tank. The dominant male chases the other two males away and I think would probably harass the females too much if his "intentions" weren't spread across so many females. I would make sure I used a quarantine tank for anything new you get. I learned that lesson the hard way a few times(I'm a slow learner lol). Just my thoughts. :) Good luck with whatever you decide.

I would say just the biggest ones that you can find. I'd say that size would be more important than species. I think that the cichlids will probably eventually kill them and they will definitely grow faster than the livebearers so the largest sized ones would stand the best chance.

1. Livebearer fish would need to go in a seperate tank otherwise they will be eaten
2. Mollies, platties, and guppies are your best bet. However, not really worth it.
3. I'd go get a 20 gallon tank from petco/petsmart/CL and buy 2 kribensis. they breed pretty easily and you can actually sell the babies. or go get two convicts, they will breed every month and you will have an endless supply of babies.

i used platies in a group of 2M/4F it worked for a while, always saw fat females never saw the babies,my growouts i think loved them.i would-- Definitely-- quarantine anything you get for 2 weeks at least, live bearers are mass produced, carry diseases
