Hello to all,

I've been keeping fish for decades, and have decided to take my addiction...I mean... hobby to the next level. It helps that its recently gotten cold here in NJ. I pushed my hobbying days to the side, but I'm back baby!!

I have two tanks now, down from 5 three years ago. I needed to downgrade when I bought my house, and got married. Amazing how that can take away from constuctive aquarium work.

I have one planted tank, that I've been working on a tough algae problem. I bought a new light fixture, Compact flourescent 110Watts, on a whim. Then the algae started. I started doing water changes, water changes, water changes...

I have tried so many other new things, too. Split my lighting to two 5 hour stages a day with a 3 hour siesta in between. Introduced new fish, two chinese algae eaters, that I wish I never bought... five ottos with 4 surviving...and three mollies. I started using PURIGEN and my nitrate levels have dropped considerably, and Fluvals Phosphate remover which doesn't seem to do much. I also have a whiptail catfish, an angelfish, and two plecos in this tank. I've probably maxed out this 30 gallon tank.

My other tank is a 38 gallon. It houses two very mature synodontis eupterus, two convict chiclids (that my wife adores), and an bluegill from the stream behind my old apartment.

I'm looking forward to getting acquainted with the community, hope I didn't ramble too much.
