So, for the bad news first. The LFS will not let me return the cobras. They claim they're marulioides. Their fish "expert" said they are definitely not marulias. I did my own research, and agree that these are in fact cobras. What an idiot. The good news now. I have a lame excuse to go tank shopping next month. Since I've been to Taiwan for the last two years, I had to give up fish keeping for a while. I parted with two 120 gallon tanks, one 100 gallon, two 50 gallons, lots and lots of 20 gallons, and all my p's. I've kept a pair of 18" channa argus before, so I'm fully aware of their strength and aggressiveness. I have never kept cobras, so I'm excited. I'm planning on possibly putting sand, and making it a planted tank. I have six of these guys, with the biggest one being 6 inches. Eventually, if I do end up with a pair, I will get rid of the rest. This is a long shot, but maybe, just maybe, I would like to breed these one day. I know that no one has ever breed them before in a home aquarium. But I will do my best, buy a big tank, and cross my fingers. Any suggesstions anyone? BTW, sorry for the crappy pics, as this was shot by my phone camera.

You are going to need 3 metres plus tank at least for six of those.
And a pool to breed them.

You said in your last thread you couldn't keep them as you have no room for a large tank in you"little place"?
Do yourself a favor, think long and hard about it.

You mentioned that you have kept an 18" Argus before. How did you like him? I have a 20" argus now and he's boring. He just lays on the bottom!!!

I'm trying to pair them off. In the end, I'm only going to keep that pair, and find new homes for the other four. There's no way I'm keeping all six.

They were vicious. I had a pair of them. They were meaner than my rhom. Because I had two of them, they were more active. Sadly, I came home one day, and one busted through the heavy glass lid, and dried out on the kitchen floor.

In addition, you can't use a picture of a wild fish for comparison of a tank raised fish. Yes, fish do get huge in the wild, but in the home aquarium it's always different. Because of differences in diet, ph, and other environmental factors, fish in the home aquarium aren't always the same size, color, etc.

GL buddy, keep us updated on whats going on!

Thank you. I will update everyone when I get the new tank, and post pictures as well. I'm really excited to go tank shopping again. The tanks here are so cheap compared to the states. I saw one that measured 5 feet by 2 feet, 2 1/2 feet tall. Sweet tank. With the stand, it costs only $300 US. I have to measure my door to see what I can and cannot fit through it. Plus, I have to see how heavy it is, because I don't plan on living in my room forever. Currently, I live in a studio, about the size of a two car garage, with a bathroom. I wouldn't mind living here for a few years, but there's a girl involved now. I'm planning on getting married and moving to a bigger place within the next year, so I have to consider something more mobile till I move to a more permenant place. The more realistic tank is a 4 foot by 20 inch by 2 feet tall. That costs a whole $150 US dollars with the stand. It's a bit small for a pair, but that may be my only choice. I will have to do some measuring and planning over Chinese New Year, and my week off from teaching English here. That 5 footer does look sweet and tempting. I may just be tempted enough to try to fit it through my door somehow.

Yes, the photo I posted is a wild caught, but 90/100cm is very easily attained in a home aquarium with correct settings.

I gave mine to a culture centre aquarium when it hit around 70cm as it was not suitable for the small pond we had it in.

Anything under 8ft for a single fish IMO (I have and have owned a lot of Channa) is just wrong.

A pair is going to need way way more than that.

The reason you don't see many pics of adult captive Marulius is becouse they get very long and aggresive, and most people can't home them when they grow and dispose of them.

They are a lovely fish, and I am not just trying to suade you off them, but in my own experience they are seriously not suitable for home aquaria unless you are ready to have them in a pond or pond sized tank.

Anything else will give them a miserable life.
