Hey most of you probly saw my other threads about getting spotted gar(s), but a few weeks ago my friend came over my house and a few weeks back he gave me his two oscars, and this time when he came over he was quite shocked on how big they got, then he asked if he could get both of them back, and i said sure when ever your ready, then he ask if i wanted his gar for the 2 oscars so i said i would think about it, then tonight i was at his house and noticed his gar looke a little bummed out, as if it needed more space, and right now its housed with a red devil 4-6" and 2 gourami(not sure of species or spelling) and 2 other cichlids which im not so sure about. well his gar is maybe a foot or a inch or two under a foot and would this be alright to put in with 2 red devils 3 fire mouths 2 smaller unident cichlids ( get chased around alot) and a salvini cichlid along with 2 4-5" oscars?

i would say, no, that combination will just stress out the gar not to mention issues with aggression, size differences, and feeding. keeping a gar with a lot of cichlids is generally not a good idea. if you get the gar, i would get rid of most of those tankmates, or just give it its own tank and create a new group of fishes from there (gars get along with bichirs, other gars, and other peaceful fishes). good luck--

oh i dont mind getting rid of the tank makes i just want it so bad because i dont like the way he looks in a 55 long  well im getting a 20 gal from my friend maybe i could house a few of the cichlids in there not so sure=/ but if u were me which would u keep and which would u get rid of?

Your going to need a tank much larger than 55gallons for a spotted gar. Also, keeping gar w/ other fish can lead to problems w/ the gar not getting enough food.

i know but my friend has it in a 55 now and everytime im over there it looks dead=/ and tonight i noticed his RD and i think a discus or somthing is in the tank and isnt much lively either

Thats because your friends tank is overstocked those fish will be/are stressed out and prone to illness/disease. The gar needs a larger tank as do the oscars red devils and more than likely the unident cichlids too.

given the options you have, and asking what i would do...i would definitely get the gar and get rid of ALL the cichlids. at least in terms of keeping them together. if you can keep any of them in a smaller tank that's great, but in terms of appropriate tankmates, none of them should be kept with the gar. and you're right, those salvini can be quite aggressive, and are an especially bad idea. if you really want the gar, transfer out all those other fishes. hope that helps!--
