can you guys recomend any good places to look for stands online? im looking for a nicer 55 gallon 13x48 stand. or maybe just some good brands to look for.

ya i know, thats why i mentioned brands also... then i can see if any stores in my area can get whichever brands like. ive mostly just seen the oceanic stands. most of the other stands in the lfs are pretty frumpy/homemade looking. not that im opposed to a homemade stand. i may just build one my self.
Perfecto is good and inexpensive. Or if you are handy you can always build your own. If you aren't and its not a living room tank. You can use cinder block.

Stands are pretty easy to build yourself, especially smaller ones. You can find all kinds of plans on line. I've built 3 so far. One for my 125, one that holds a 75 on top, and a 33 on the bottom, and one that holds a 48 breeder, with a storage shelf, or room for a small tank.
i would love to build one my self but i want it to look like areal piece of furniture and not like something i built. i found a pretty nice one at the local chain store. in order to make a nice presentable stand i would probably spend close to the same amount for good wood etc...
I like building my own, they end up looking as good as any I have bought and are far sturdier. I build in a ground fault interupter and 2 six outlet powerstrips. I usually end up spending more doing it myself but I like the way they turn out. One I built some years ago for a 90g included a bookshelf, tank hood, and lighted storage spaces, sold it at a nice profit.
If you do buy one just make sure they did not make it from particle board.
