So the local Petsmart had 3 geophagus surinamensis selling for $5.99. I have always loved the look of these fish but never knew much about them. That Petsmart does a good job of taking care of their fish so I am not worried about purchasing from them.

Is this the usual price or are they usually more?

Also, how well do you think they would house with other SA's, like Oscars, a pike cichlid, and a Jack Dempsey? All of the listed fish are surprisingly passive and I have never had many aggression problems.

Like I said, I am new to Eartheaters, so any advice would be cool.

Sounds like a good deal. How big are they? Also, they are most likely not Surinamensis. The most common Geo found in the lfs is either Abalios, or Altifrons. If you get them put some pics up, and they should be ID'd rather easily.

What size tank are you housing them in? What kind of Pike cichlid? The JD may be a problem. And if you do get them make sure you have fine sand, imho it's a necessity.

They are about 2" long. I would put them in the 50gal until they get about an inch or 2 longer, then they can shift over to the 120. I plan on picking them up tmrw after work so I should have pics to ID tmrw evening.

Everything in the 120 is not fully grown yet. It is a grow out until fall when the 300 acrylic gets here.

The pike is unsure. He was purchased a couple days ago and was of course labeled wrong "Red Pike Cichlid". I haven't had the chance to post the pic yet but I am thinking he is a reticulata or cyclostoma. There are a few that look a lot alike. One thing that is slightly noticeable is that along the edges of his fin, there is a red and then blue trimming.

And yes, I have fine sand, tons of hiding spaces, and lots of driftwood.

I recently got three from my LFS for $5.99 each, around 2". Went to petsmart later that week and to my surprise they had them in as well. They were not showing as good of coloration as mine, but they were def. suriname's. I have my trio with my juvi peacock bass and albino oscar. They occasionally chase one another but don't bother the other fish in the tank. They take pellets and bloodworms.
