I've located an African for $40 shipped. Is this a good price? I will get pics as soon as the seller forwards them- need you guys to confirm species for me. Any helpful tips for raising them besides what I can find online? One of you hardcore lung keepers needs to write a primer :naughty:

good price for sure :)

primer is in the works, although there are several threads available online that have very good, detailed info. check those out, and if you have specific questions we can help you out.

basically it's frequent large water changes, no tankmates, and non-live food :) --

i bought my african lungfish for $30 2 years ago. that's definitely a good price. he's 2 feet long, so i hope you're ready for the size commitment. (these guys grow pretty fast) i have a 40 gallon tank for mine.
as for care, i went through 3 plecosthamus' before i got one big enough that he couldn't eat... yet. it's 8 inches long and eats all the gunk in the tank. so far it's been able to defend itself without hurting the lungfish or itself.
i've never changed the water. they can tolerate huge changes in ph, so you can be lazy on water treatments. i recommend a filter though, just to keep the tank from stinking up your home. i'm having good luck with a mixed sand/gravel floor to the tank. mostly sand to allow for burrowing. i also have some clay pots that i (carefully) hammered the bottom out of to provide shelter.
i throw in 15-20 large feeder fish a week to feed him. very low maintenance pet.
it's definitely the creepiest pet i've ever owned. hope this was helpful and good luck with your new pet!

uh, zombeer, you might want a larger tank than a 40g for a 2' lungfish. And welcome to MFK!!!
