HEres a Link of the different styles of protein skimmers i am looking at, i was wondering how much of a difference the hang on protein skimmers are from the in tank, or sump skimmers...which style do you have and does it work better then a previously chosen style of skimmer? I am personally looking for a hang on skimmer to save space.. Any suggestions of the products on this LINK?? please any advice welcome, or any advice on other protein skimmers not mentioned. Thank you.

..this is for a Live rock and live sand tank..mainly fish..

Depending on the size of tank. I would reccomend this one. It has a refugium and skimmer all in one and it works beautifullly. I am not a fan at all of hob skimmers, as the water level fluctuates or even when you put a hand in the tank, it will send the skimmer out of wack for a little while. The prizm is the one I would suggest if any if you must have a hob skimmer. But prepare for alot of micro bubbles until it break in. Do the cpr ps if you have a 40 to 60 g. tank.http://item.express.ebay.com/__Pet-...QihZ018QQptdnZPetQ20SuppliesQQcmdZExpressItem

its a 55 G live rock and sand, mainly fish only, few featherdusters, and hermits an stuff..
Thanks for the speedy feedback man!

bump... any other skimmer preferences from the web address listed above? Thanks guys and Gals!

coralife ss...best bang for your buck... have one on my 135g with 115 pds of rock and several fish. I would stay far away from the prizm..far far away. The refugium is an excellent idea, i just dont like cpr skimmers.

This is how well the coralife has worked for me. Needless to say, I think they are junk, junk, junk. This is my opinion though. If I put my hand in the tank, the skimmer went flat, when I did water changes, it took forever to break in again, coughed out way too many bubbles and got alot of my sand caught in there. The rio pump it comes with is just down right silly. I have 2 of them now piled in this box, I bought another one thinking my first was just a bad one.

Oh ya and the other issue is that the return is smashed right up against the intake pump and that particular skimmer for the 65 g. does not fit Oceanic tank rimes. Maybe if you set it up as an insump skimmer it may be better I just gave up before I committed suicide. Sorry clopez21.
Check your lfs, I bet at least one of their smaller reef tanks has the cpr aquafuge and skimmer on one of their tanks. I will send pics of my lfs that has one, tons of calurpa and covered in coraline. Very nice setup. I personally only use Trigger systems rafugium and skimmers. But they are for very large systems.

Thanks i wanna see those pics bad... post em here when u get em..thanks

That is one beastly skimmer you have there. Starting a coralife graveyard huh. There are a few people who have had problems with the Coralife ss. It has been exceptional for me. But i would highly recommend it be used as an insump unit. I tried to use it in the tank and I did deal with microbubbles. It can be fixed, there are threads dedicated to it. I jsut preferred not to mess with it any longer. Definitely an insump unit. Heard great things about aquac remoras
