I am needing to move out of state and restock my 125 gallon. I have been looking at Motaguense for awhile. I have never tried them, I really like their color and I think this would be the time to give it a shot if I can find them. What other sa/ca cichlids would make for good roomates with these Motas in a 125?
i have a 3 1/2 to 4 inch male mota with a 8 inch female parachromis losellei wich they seem to be pairing up , but the mota has no problem tryin to take on my male festae wich is about 7 to 8 iches,so motas can be down right aggressive and a bad *** fish.
I was thinking about getting just 1 mota or even 1 losellei to try them out as I like them both. Then I was thinking about adding maybe 2 dempsies and something else, like maybe a festae, a catfish or two, a pleco, and call it good for the tank. That may be too much for a 125. I don't have a tone of experience with some of these bigger fish at least in housing them in a tank this size to know compatibility. Thoughts?
If You stick with one of each You should be okay.I would go for a female mota, they stay smaller and don't tend to be outright nasty like the males. They can hold there own with larger fish. I think You'll be fine with that stock.Maybe drop one of the JDs
Most Mota's are pretty aggressive so you should get other cichlids just as big and known to be aggressive as well... they might still go at it and start the lip locking for awhile... and sometimes will eventually get along. you can try red devils, midas, manguense.
Thanks for the info. Of these sized species though, how many would be a good number to have in a 125? I was thinking about getting 4 or 5 of these 10-12" size range cichlids and seeing how that goes. Any thoughts there as to number of fish?
I know I am stepping away from the motas for a bit, but what about this?... A texas, a midas/red devil, and a flowerhorn? Then maybe some silver dollars? I seem to see these fish put together a bit. Thoughts?
Get them at a smaller size and introduce them at the same time and It could work.Plenty of hiding places always help too. It's always hard to say what will work with Cas as individuals vary. But You should be ok
