Well I finally received my brother's Pike Cichlid.

You can find the some info thread here http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=373192

Here's what she looks like. Hopefully you have access

I received her yesterday afternoon. Got her in the tank and made her a temp shelter so she can hide.
Before going to work this morning, I noticed she had completely re-arranged the Pool Filter Sand to her liking, wow did she ever move the sand.

Would this be considered a good sign of her starting to settlle in?
Before going to work this morning, I took a quick look and her colors are not back yet from what I can tell. Probably due to lack of light in the room. Also she was in her shelter..

I also did receive a Pleco which i plan on getting ride of.
My wife mentioned she wanted colors in the tank. OK. Decorations, Fish... what? I dunno just colors.. sheesh.... So I have to work on that..

Is there any suitable type of fish I can add without them being harmed? My borther told me she quite docile, but in my mind, told myself Hmm.. Pike, Female. not likely..

Her former tank mates were, an Oscar 6", GT 6.5" and the pleco.
Since my brother had her, she kept to herself and was not bothered by the others.

Now it's only her and the Pleco. It will not be long before she dominates the tank. I believe the Pleco ate the algea and Vegie waffers. I added a few some pellets for the Pike.

What do you think? I know all Pikes are different, but based on your experience, when can I expect for her to be settled in?
What other suitable tank mates? colorfully fish?

Just need to do a rockscape... some black granite and slate...

Update: The Pike & Pleco are still alive but stressed. So I tested my water for PH. Tank and tap are 8.0

I hate my city.. What the hell happened.. It was always 7.4. Why 8.0 now!

I had thought the drifwood my brother gave me would lower the PH. It has been 2 days and I should be able to see some results of a PH drop.

For now I added some PH down till more of a permanent solution is in place to achieve a desirable PH level.. Can't afford an RO unit right now. I need to bring the PH from 8.0 down to 7.0 somehow...

I need to test for KH/GH as well, I will buy a kit tonight and post the results for feedback on what to do next..

The only thing in the tank is a big piece of driftwood, still working on getting the rest of the stuff, rocks,, plants..

Update:

Looks like the Pleco is eating. good to know.

The Pike though is another thing. I gave it 12 Rosie Red to snack on and went to bed. Before leaving for work I had checked on her hoping she ate.. Pffft!!
Not one Rosie Red... I thought by giving her some snacking items she would come around..

My brother did say it will take time for her to come around..
Like I had mentioned, i have only a large piece of driftwood in the tank. Maybe it's not enough structure her the Pike to hide behind to hunt. i don;t know

I'm hoping someone can chime in and comment based on their experiences of what's happening..

imo if you can't afford a R/O system your best bet is to stop useing PH down ect at least until you can get GH/KH readings because otherwise your likely simply spiking your system. I don't have alot of experiance with different Pikes but the few I have had did fine in my hard as nails water as long as the PH was consistant and the nitrates where low.

once you get a GH/KH reading peat may help. driftwood unless useing massive quantities of it will only bring most PH down a tick or 2.. again depending on gh/kh.

imo your best off keeping the tank consistant for her and giveing her some time to settle in.

Thank you for your response.
When I get home I will test the water and report back..

Well It has been a week, and still have not eaten..

She stays in one spot

Observation: she came out of her hide out, to pick on the Pleco. At times the Pleco would invade her territory and she(Pike) defends her territory well.
Need to get a shelter for the Pleco...
