get an FJ Cruiser!!! my dad got me one as a graduation present! you can fit a 120 gallon, with a hood, stand in it!! trust me i did that twice lol.
if you want to go a little race car on your first car get an eagle talon tsi 1st gen.
if you boost it right you'll be a turn heads on the streets.

my insurance is £1,300 for a year, then it goes down to £500 the year after since i'll be 21 and hopefully 1 year no claims 
lol hopefully but I can't freakin drive well, my god i'm rubbish, ok i'm EXCELLENT at alot of things but driving isn't one of them 
my daddy don't buy me no car lol and i'm no trust fund baby ( well I was but I spent it lol! ) I gotta buy everything myself, parents paid for lessons tho

Besides routine maintenance like tires and oil, I've only put in 50 dollars to replace one sensor and haven't added any dents/dings in the 6 years I've had it. It didn't even need replaced. The car would just die occasionally when I would start from being stopped at light or sign, and only in the summer 
. Luckily I had a friend who's dad worked a dealership who could use the OBD to find out what was wrong.

No offence Princess, but most women generally suck at driving anyways.
My first car was a hand me down blazer, I LOVED that truck, I wish I never sold it...03' Galant now, great little car, not much for the power side, but they look mean if they are done right. It was a flood car though : /

btw my dad likes american cars but it seems like every weak one of his gm cars breaks down, perhaps thats why he likes them as he enjoys fixing stuff.
i say thumb down on american cars, dont expect them to run well for more then 10 years
