I'm interested in practicing raising some fish. So far, the only fish i've bred are livebearers, which are easy. I recently purchased some blue gene female jack dempseys to go with my EBJD... and while those grow up, i'd like some practice with a good egg layer.

convicts the get one male and one female there babies will breed then those babies will breed and so on

What kinds of convicts are thier? I was always confuse if a convict is a type of fish species or it's an individual fish? Like for example...thier are catfish but then thier is the red tail catfish.

Black convicts, I got a couple to fill up my tank and now all I have is convicts! The females have a bright red belly and blue green fins, males have almost no color besides their normal grey and black bodies. These fish are the best starters for breeding.

Convicts are a specific species of small central American cichlid.

They are one of the easiest fish to breed but you may have a hard time getting rid of the fry. Maybe try something similarly easy to breed but has more of a demand if you want to sell the fry... Depends on what your actual goal is.

im pretty sure convicts would not be suitable to breed if you are looking for snacks for larger cichlids. I have heard convicts are notorious for being too much of a fin nipper to feed to larger cichlids.
