I have 3 juvie JD's (2 female 1 male) right now in a 30G grow out that my dad bought at petland for like $2 each. I didn't really want them at first but I've grown really attached to them (as many of us do with fish we don't even really want at first) and I've decided to keep them for the long haul. What would you guys suggest be a good tank size for the three + tank mates. I've got a larger GT in another tank and I plan on buying just one main tank to house them in. The only other fish I would add are probably a carpinte and green sev (I've got a thing for green fish). Any advice is appreciated :headbang2 .

For all those fish you'll want a pretty big tank, probably 100 or 125. You could maybe get away with 3 jacks and a GT in a 75 but alot will depend on your GT's personality.

So there will be a total of 4 GTs, 1 carpinte, 1 severum.
I'd say you're looking at 90 gallons minimum. 125 would be better.

^ 3 JDs, 1 GT and its still a maybe on the carpinte and sev. Yeah I was talking it over with pops the other day he said we should go with something over a 100. Just want to hear some of you guys' opinions. I'm pretty sure the carpinte and sev would hold their own or maybe even put down the GT and I think the JDs will too once they get bigger. From what I've seen of my GT he'll stay away from other cichlids (esp those around the same size) until he realizes they're weak enough to be bullied but I doubt that'll be problem with a carpinte and sev.

id say go for a 150 for all those, especially if you want the Carpintis and Sev, and as far as holding there own, the Carpintis will for sure, though i dunno about the sev, my female Carpintis almost killed my sev over night, so the sev needed to be removed.

also, i think once that Carpintis is the same size as your GT the GT is screwed when it comes to trying to be dominant. if you get the carpintis.

Any other opinions? I don't really like to bump my own threads but I really wanna know if people have successfully kept GT and carpintes in a 125
