It seems there are a lot of people having to get out of the hobby due to the economic situation and family obligations. Not to sound callous, but it seems that for others this would be a great time to into the hobby at significant savings. Personally I was planning on getting a larger system at a later time, but have moved up my plans due to the current availability of so many large tanks. Just thought I'd share this point of view, and like I said best of luck to those being forced to get out of the hobby but appreciate your help in getting others more seriously into the hobby.

Not only that, but there are SO many rare fish available at the best costs ever. Beanie, Leo's, Azul, Orino, Kelberi....I wish I was just getting in the hobby right now. Good point.

Go for it. I've bought most of my tanks by waiting for estate sale, divorce sale, etc. low-price deals.
We're feeling the pinch here. I had to drop to 88 tanks to get the income to meet the monthly outlay. But, I've just stored the unused 37 tanks for when the current situation turns.

yep...

when the world knocks people on their butts.. its easy to kick them in the teeth...

Buying tanks from people getting out of the hobby is helping them, helping you, and eventually helping the hobby when they can get back in...

Very true, I've thought of this too. I've got a few deals already, which I would doubt I would have gotten a few years back. not callous at all. If someone is going out of the hobby, someone has to buy their stuff, plus most people going out need the money badly.

craigslist is your friend

Agreed. If your patient you'll get some great deals. I'm constantly seeing people selling overpriced tanks and fish, and eventually end up selling for dirt cheap.

point is that if you really love the hobby, financial considerations don't come to mind. as far as im concerned anyways.
