I found a fellow who wants to downsize. 5 yr old 135 set up even trade for my 75 gallon set up. God bless craigs list!
Ya think?
I will have to rent a cargo van for $90 plus gas for 450 mi round trip, so lets say about 150 dollars into it from my end (unless I can get this person to meet halfway!) I say good deal!!!
Anyhow, I am looking at equipment upgrades, so let's talk filtration.
First of all, I am a dinosaur...I still like undergravel filters. Do they still make them and if so which would you recommend and what brands. If not, why not. I also use external filtration (currently and Emperor 280 on the 75) What external upgrade would be recommended?
Stand alone or with undergravel?
How about heater? Don't know if the 135 will come with one. Either way, how much wattage is necessary and one or 2?
Thanks...getting excited. I will probably pull the trigger on this next weekend!!

well as far as undergravel filters go i think they are only good if u reverse the pump and make it blow water from the gravel so then the crud lifts and then gets sucked out by the external filter i was gunna use it for my 29g and yes they do make them still because my lfs swears up and down on them but what i would do is get two of the largest emperors and hook them on the back because u can never have to much filteration.

I love craigslist too! If youve got more money in the budget Id get a canister filter good for 150G and a hang on the back filter good for another 75-100. The undergravel system is more touble than its worth especially if you are using sand as a substrate. As far as heaters I would look at the Titanium heaters with remote thermostat. The heating element is metal so unlike the glass ones they wont break. Good luck, post pics!

I use crushed coral for substrate and have used an undergravel filter for yrs! never a problem with it and I think it keeps my levels right when I get lazy on water changes.
Or am I deluding myself?
