Goodbye to Flagtail

Today, I lost my Flagtail. Had it for over 6 years, ever since it was a measily 2 incher. It was a beautiful fish, and always got peoples' attention.
I've never given any of my fish a "ceremony", but I felt compelled to do it for this special fish of mine. RIP buddy

How long do flagtails generally live? Do you know what caused his/her demise? Any foreshadowing to the big sleep?
Really pretty fish, even post mortem.
