Over there
My goonch was acting strangely then suddenly coughed out what looks like a tapeworm. You can't really tell in the vid but it has segments just like a worm. I tried to take it out after recording to get a better pic but it got sucked into the powerhead and shredded up. Anyone know what it is and what should I do? http://youtu.be/BEzP-3Jf-2s

Hmm, you didn't feed it anything like worms? Could be some type of parasite how big was it? If it was a tapeworm I'm pretty sure they come in singles so problem may have resolved itself. Just thank your cats digestive system :).

No. It hasn't eaten anything for about a week. I'm still trying to switch it off of live QT'd feeders onto massivore. It wasn't very long. Maybe 1-1/2"-2" max.

Ill guess tapeworm, let me know if it happens again because if it does it might not be that.

If it is a tapeworm some species can regenerate. I know with human tapeworm one tiny piece can grow into a whole new worm. In the 1800's through the 1940's a popular and successful diet pill was a piece of a chopped up tapeworm. The parasite would steal food and nutrients leading to weight loss.

I have no idea if that is a tapeworm but if it is I doubt coughing it up would rid it if the parasite entirely. Warrants concern and further investigation/action perhaps

Was it moving on its own? It may just be the intestines of one of the fish it had eaten previously. Is he eating normally ?

Tapeworm sections are normally (if not always) pooped out. They live in the intestines, not in the stomach-upwards.

It does not look like tapeworm to me. Assuming this fish is a fresh import, it should be wormed anyway.

That's a tape worm, Prazi will get them. Soak some food for about 15 mins using one package API general cure use just enough water to desolve the powder, dump it into the tank and let the fish eat it. They will bail out so treat the tank too.

I can't soak the food cuz I'm currently still trying to convert it off of live feeders. Will just treating the tank help or should i get him onto the massivore and omce he's eating it regularly, start soaking the food.
