Goonch Tankmates?

Hey there,

Update on my new goonch. He is loving his new tank setup. Eating very well. I was wondering if there were any fish that i could put in there with him. I know that they have to be bigger than his mouth. This is not a problem at the moment. He is only about 4-5 inches long. The reason i ask is because of the cooler water and the high current in the tank. Which fish species would be good for those parameters. The water is between 68 and 70 degrees. Flow rate is really high. 1200gph powerhead in the bottom of the tank.

Tank looks very empty with just him in there.

Awesome! I assume that's a yarellii correct, what are your final plans for him when he gets to be a true monster?

Yep. That's a yarelli. I have a 300 gallon pond(7x3x2) that he will grow out in for a while. During that time i will be making a larger pond for him.

Whatever tankmates you are looking into, be sure not to get any fish that will outcompete the food with him, eg. RTC, unless you are willing to handfeed(?) your goonch. So far have seen people growing goonch with datnoids, peacock bass and asian arowana.

the things i worry about with those particular species would be the temp. Don't those all need warmer water?
