Hey guys, I have a 10” giraffe catfish in my tank now and I would like to add a 7” Goonch catfish..
Thoughts on this combination?
Would they be fine together?
I don’t wana make a mistake by adding a Goonch, they will be together in a 400 gallon tank

TIA

Honestly I wouldn't add the goonch. From what I hear is they tend to be very aggressive eaters and would most likely bully the giraffe away from food. Also a goonch would eventually need something bigger then a 400 as they can get upto around 5-6ft in the end. Lastly if the goonch decided to attack the giraffe the giraffe would have no way of defending itself from the goonchs teeth.

I imagine it may depend on the goonch species. Perhaps it is wrong to lump them together. But I am not a goonch guy, only a wannabe, having never had them.

Not all are giants either. My understanding is that rutilus for instance doesn't exceed 1' or not by much.

Don't think you would have much to worry about for the first few years. I have a 16" goonch in with an 8" synodontis angelicus , a 16" piriaba and a 14" liearius marmoratus all growing on in a 6*2*2 generally without issues. Plenty of flow and filtration, regular feeding and some cover for them to each get out of the way. All will go in the pond when large enough.

Huh, never knew they had more then one specie of goonch. Of course I'm not much of a catfish person myself, biggest cat I ever had was an Asian redtail and he turned out to be a living nightmare.
