So I have a 3" Gorillus Blue Umbee in a 46 gallon (36"x18" footprint) by himself. I realize that when he's larger he'll need to be kept solo, but while he's smaller I like to add a small school of something to help fill out the tank. I've tried various species of Tetras that were close to his size, which he promptly demolished. First priority would be not adding anything that would harm the Umbee. Second would be inexpensive so if the Umbee kills them, no big deal. Maybe I'd have better success with bottom dwellers? A shoal of Corries perhaps?
Thanks in advance!

I've noticed sense keeping this variant of umbee that they are much more aggressive at a small size than blue Umbees. They also grow much faster than blue Umbees! I'm sure you've noticed these things but my point is, maybe stay with the solo. Why waste your money on a school of fish he/she will probably kill either way. When I get my GB's they were around the .25-,75 inch range and today maybe 7 months later I have a male at almost 10" and a female right around 8" or so. You would have the best luck with an armored type catfish like cories.

I agree, not too mention that you have the possibility of introducing parasites when adding new fish. He will grow into more of a personable fish by keeping him solo too:)

I just added some white paver sand (filtered out the sand through a fish net) in with the black diamond sand. Going to see if he lightens up any. Tank is a little cloudy from adding the sand, but heres a FTS anyway.

Lately mine has been pretty light. Unless another fish goes near his territory. Then he/she immediatly turns dark and attacks
