weeeeee is it better to get bichirs young? i got mine and they are 2" each... can you sex them at that size yet? how big a tank should they start in? what temp should i maintain?

i know, some of you will tell me to read the stickies and i have... i am just so excited that i am babbling xD :nilly:

i put in pellets that are one millimeter (or half) and one ate!!! like crunching peanuts xD...

so excited... hmmmm should i post some picts? o.O

oh well... just rambling on (and it's 12midnight already xD)...

founf 2 5"-6" ornates (about an inch in diameter average) in the LFS and i was thinking that maybe they are too old for them to get attached to me (though they were sooooo beautiful!!!!)... big heads and the body marking was grand!!!... also found about 5-7 or so 4" senegals, though i was really still deciding... then i found 6 two inchers and i thought, i had to get now... i hope i didnt make any mistake... please please please tell me i didnt? o.O

Senegals get about 12" max, ornates more like 18"+

You need a big tank.

They grow very fast from 3"-9" IME then slow down a bit. I feed the 2" bichirs a lot of hikari sinking carnivore pellets they grow very quickly on a mix of carnivore pellets tilapia silversides , and krill.

Petsmart has those little ones (3 inchers) for like $6. but they were too small for the other fish i have, so i had to go to a local store to buy a 7 incher with more girth, for $40. i hated getting off $40 when i know small ones go for $6
