I grabbed up a craigslist special yesterday. I got a 90g with stand, 2 bulb t5 light, overflow box and wet/dry filter, 100 lbs of live rock and 75 lbs of sand for................................ wait for it.......................... $300!

The tank also came with a few fish. he had it set up with a panther grouper, a spotted grouper, a clown trigger and 2 damsels. I'm going to make it into a reef tank so those guys gotta go. I'll prob drop them off at a LFS today.

Stay tuned for pics/ more info

That tank was seriously overstocked...glad to see that you were finally able to get your hands on an upgrade.

Hopefully the LFS gives you a deal so you will have some money to stock the new tank with from your trade in.

The grouper were only 3-4 inches long... still babies lol. The guy gave me everything, food, hydrometer, buckets etc lol. I'm gonna bring them to the lfs but since they are like $20 for their current size I prob won't get much... maybe just some cleanup crew cause he only had maybe 5 hermits in there

Ok finished filling up the tank and transferred all my creatures from my 30g to the 90. The tank was setup and running at the previous owners place when we arrived so once I filled everything I did a check of water parameters.
Salinity: 1.021
pH: 8.2
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0.25ppm
Nitrate: 20ppm

Since everything was within spec, i went ahead and transferred all my fish, coral and inverts over. The tank came with a Coralife 2 bulb T5 and my LFS said that my corals (softies and lps) would be fine under it for the being. I have the sump hooked up the best of my knowledge however the hose appears to be too small and it already blew off the pump and sprayed water everywhere. I 'm planning on leaving it off tonight till I can get an appropriate hose.

Give me cheers and jeers accordingly. I'll post pics asap (my camera is currently in the room with my sleeping infant lol)

Pics as of this morning. I have all my creatures transferred over. Everything you see was part of the deal except the fish/coral/inverts and my circulation pump. Note the water level is a little low after last nights incident. Let me know what you think

Looks nice. Would consider using a sump/fuge over a wet dry for a reef but I maintained a lps softie reef with a wet dry. Also consider placing the overflow more towards the center unless circulation is quite high and depending on return hose placement.

+1 to the above...the wetdry will trap waste more than likely, making it pointless.

Jeers for the nitrite...should always be zero. You should be fine, but I would add an airstone somewhere to gas some of that off.

Otherwise, cheers. Good to see the hobby continuing to grow on you! haha

Actually I know nothing about the wet/dry system and how it works. On my 30g I had a hang on skimmer and a AC110- converted to a fuge. Could someone explain how the wet dry works? Also I heard you can convert these into a fuge? What would be the best system for an eventual full reef tank? Will the wet/dry be fine for now with the limited bio-load?

As fo rthe nitrate.. I agree but since it was setup already (with grouper mind you) and I used 60% of his old water I was surprised it was that good lol. Will I need to keep the air stone in there permanently or just temporarily to remove the nitrates? I've never used a airstone bubbler either lol
