Got a cascade 1000 new to canisters

I just recently bought a cascade 1000 canister filter for my 75 gallon never owned one before i was wondering how to get the max filtration out of it and should i use the spray bar it comes with or the little plastic directional piece how far does it need to be in the tank for better efficiency
