I just bought this guy/girl and so far is very sociable with the other fishes! Please excuse the dirty glass =P

Can festivums live solo? or do they require a small group like geos?

Solos r fine. Grow pretty fast

Congrats! They are interesting fish

I kept a group before and there were some interesting interactions (mostly bickering). I don't think they "need" to be in a group, but I suggest getting a few more if you can.

Mesonauta are definitely a shoaling species. If you've ever seen videos of them in the wild, they travel in groups like discus and angelfish. I've always raised mine out in groups of six or more. I don't think you have to keep them in groups, but you'd be able to witness a more natural behavior from them if they were.

thanks for the info! the owner of the lfs i got this from said this one has been alone for awhile and does not know when he will get more. Hopefully they can order more in!

I really enjoy observing him! It loves to eat and fight my geos for the pellets.
