The land of the pine
Found a 105 gallon tank mext to the road with a stand.holds water fine and no cracks. I just need a canopy and filter for it and it will be ready to use. I'll moving my two five inch bowfin to it but would like to keep some schooling fish with them. They are currently in a 40 gallon with an emerald shiner and a blue spotted sunfish. I think a school of red sided daces would be cool. Any suggestions?

I would expect the bowfins making a snack out of most schooling fishes. That if you want add some larger shiners that is too big for the bowfins.

Lucky i wish I had found a 100 gallon lol

I do expect it to happen. I have a steady source of red sided daces and chubs. There is also a shiner in my bowfin tank that has been there for 3 months and hasn't been eaten. They have torn up lots of minnows and other shiners though.

Most sunfish tend to be somewhat schooling fish, and if you get some that are roughly the same size as the bowfin, then they should leave each other alone. Bowfin can get big though, so a different plan would be needed for the long term.

Personally I would just add some giant golden shiners or common shiners along with larger creek chubs.
