So i got a free filter from someone and it has been used for quite awhile so there was some bb on it... But i didnt use the bio wheel until today, so they filter has been dry for at least 15 hrs. my question is whether or not the bacteria is dead and if it is dead how long do i have to cycle the tank...tank is about 20 g

The bacteria is dead but if you use it in a well cycled tank it will not take long for new bacteria to grow. It is the same as with changing any filter media, within a couple days the bacteria will start to do its work
