a petland had a huge rabbit in a small cage for about 3 weeks. i noticed him immediately (obviously lol). i talked it over with my girl and we were interested. i go to the store and see a worker playing with it out back so it can stretch his legs. they said 10 bucks and i can have it since they cant get rid of it. someone bought him and then brought him back when he got large.

anyways, i had him for two days. i was reading on how to introduce him to the cat. the cat just runs away right now, which is fine. i just didn't want the cat to hurt it.

the problem...

when i was at work, my girl said it had attacked her. im like yea ok sure. so i come back and take i out to play and its hopping around jumping on and off the couch so i go to sit on the floor and pet it.

he was just chilling...next thing you know, he does this crazy jump spin move thing getting piss all over my legs and beer. i was like wtf is this?

so i come back after i cleaned up...he starts chasing me making this crazy grunting noise. im like oh crap. he keeps trying to bite my foot. i smacked him with a towel to get him to stop but it didnt work. i literally had to jump up on my chair and stay there.

i had to push him back in the cage with a large vodka bottle and a towel.

we were getting along great until that incident. i dont know what triggered it. i was reading he is just trying to set up territory. thats fine with the cat, but now with me. thats out of hand. some sites recommended neutering if caught early, but this is an adult.

so, here are the options

1) work with him and fix this

2) build a huge outdoor enclose/hutch and get him an altered female
(im on the bottom apartment of a house and the hutch would be right next to the house so its not like it would be isolated and rotting away.

3) post an add on craigslist to a good home.

whats not an option...

1)going back to petland in that small cramped cage with bleach smell everywhere

2) rotting at a shelter

i feel sorry i had to smack it but it didn't seem phased to be honest...i was really freaking out though. the thing was lunging for me and grunting.:(

here he is with my girlfriend for size reference (when hes being nice)

if hes trying to set up his dominance show him whos boss i know it sounds mean but if you let him chase you around hes gonna think hes at the top and he will continue to bite but if you chase him and teach him a lesson he'll know your in charge

x2

I've heard it's just like with dogs. If you let a dog hump your leg, you let it assert its dominance. Next time he goes crazy just grab him by the scruff and try to hold him back without hurting him (or yelling). Just hold him back until he calms down, and after a few seconds, give him a treat.

Every time he does a behavior you approve of (such as approaching you WITHOUT going psycho), give him a treat. As time goes by and the behavior increases, decrease the treats so that they have to do MORE of the same behavior to get the same amount of the reward.

(Well, I'm trying to apply what I learned in psychology about conditioning... I think a rabbit could be conditioned.)

Not making fun of your situation, but the idea of a psycho bunny is kind of funny.:D

i just got my comment from raising chickens if you watch 'em long enough you'll know lol

Get him fixed. (is it male? tons easier to find a vet to neuter than spay) Use a spray bottle with cold water in it next time he flips out on you. My male bunny became really aggressive when he reached maturity. Biting me.... Trying to have sex with my weenie dog..... Forgetting he was litter trained.... Once he was neutered he chilled out exponentially. Rabbit.org and binkybunny.com are also pretty good at explaining how rabbits tick. They are kind of like cats in the way that they can be aloof and reserved at times. Be patient with him he'll come around :)

"Every time I walk in the room, Netty circles my feet and bites my ankles. Does she want something from me?"

She does--and you can't give it to her. Circling, mounting, and biting are classic signs of a sexually frustrated bunny. It may be cute at first, but it can develop into a pretty nasty habit. Neutering males and spaying females can dramatically reduce aggressive behavior. In the meantime, try the suggestions listed below to protect you and your loved ones."

there is a monty python joke buried in here somewhere.. lol

like the above poster stated, if he isnt neutered i would start there-it will lower his male hormone levels.. it sounds like your doing good with him-and researching will help. i know you shouldnt let him think hes dominant over you and everyone else-ive had plenty of rabbits, but never an aggressive, dominant male.
