sand filters are great you add them to your system and they have a massive surface area

that sand filter can take care of a heavy stocked 7000 gal pond :D

"This filter uses sand as a bacteria settlement media. In a tubular design, sand is fully submerged in water. The water is pumped upwards through the sand, allowing bacteria to settle within. Additional tubes can be used as pre-filters (mechanical) and also for chemical filters. This filter provides a large surface for bacteria colonies, but sometimes lacks in providing enough oxygen for optimum performance."

Got this off of algone.com. I was curious myself like you I started having fantasies of a filter for aquarium sand. lol. No more python and tedious vacum. So I googled it and voila! T1KARMANN just wondering how effective is this thing in your personal experience? I'm imagining you've run one in the past. Is it more of a water polisher or more biologically beneficial?

yes thats the same sort of thing just a different design the type you have some people run the whole tank on that alone

i have never use one this size before but i have used a smaller one and found it great

the reason i got the one i did was its a new design with the old types you need to slow the pump down to get the sand moveing at the right level or it will pump the sand into the main tank

this new design allows youto have the pump running at full speed as it has a by pass
