SO i got a new 1 HP pump for my 230 gal. and it im raising my temp im my tank a lot. i put two fans up top blowing on the water and it helped a little any thing ells i can do to lower the temp??

How hot is the water? How much GPH does the pump put out?

Use a different pump or get a chiller.

1 hp is a large motor, unless it's a pressure based pump it should be blasting your 230 around because the flow should be at least 4000 gph plus. Either way it will not be energy effecient, especially if it's meant for a pool, which means the extra wattage will be transfered into the water, which is where the heat comes from. On average 1hp pumps will use 1000+ watts, so it'll cost a fortune to run continuosly. I'd recommend getting a smaller pump, like a iwaki or a reeflo, the money saved on energy will justify the cost a new pump and more in just a few months.

Yeah I don't put anything in my tank that isn't specifically made for aquarium use :D
You waste a lot of money then LOL

Not really, just don't buy what you don't need :D I was mostly referring to things like water pumps/filters/etc.

You'll waste alot more money re-stocking your tank. Turns out his pump came off a hot tub and was treated with something that killed all his fish.

How true this statement is. Ever see the "aquarium safe cleaners"? It's a 14 dollar bottle of dilluted vinegar.
