Well, it's not really new, I've had guppies and a dragon goobie in it for a few months. My wife doesn't want to clean it, so now I get to clean it.

Which means I get to pick the fish inside it.

I'd really just like one or 2 predator fish for it. I really like the Peacock Bass, but how long would it be happy in a 55?

From what I've read Piranha need to be in groups that are too big for a 55g.

I'd like some Exedons, but they need to be in groups of 12+, and they're like $5-6 dollars a piece.

Any ideas?

Depends what your looking for, you mentioned exodons were $5-6 so im assuming you dont want anything too expensive as a gulper or a black rhom growout would have been my suggestion, how a bout a congo puffer or some other medium puffer

agreed on the black rhom

Peru rhoms arent that expensive, some places carry them for around 20$ if you find the right place. A lot of times they overcharge and put a price tag of 50$ + for them. Although eventually (will grow very slow and take a long time) the rhom will outgrow the 55g.

You could fit a lot of solo piranha in the 55g

A solo red belly would fit great in the tank, just might be more skittish without the ability to shoal.

And a number of other piranhas in the serra species could fit in the tank as well.

s. sanchezi (spilos) could last for most of the lives, when there full grown you may want to think about a tank with a larger width, but that would be years from now and they are pretty cheap.

a brandtii would be able to live in it for a long time but are more expensive (50-75$)

Eigenmannis would be another good choice, there cheap, and stay smaller (about 6inches captive) if it excedes that than a tank with more width would be more suitable.

You could also house a small elong for a while. Although they like a lot of swimming space and as it grows will def need a larger tank sooner than the other fish mentioned.
