Haha yeah it's not the best pic. Evz jardini: nope, ExoticGreen: close (it is a an american cichlid). You're right, does look a bit like a Convict, but yes, the stripes are off.
I'll give you guys a clue: on wiki (and ncbi) in fact, it still belongs to the genus of Cichlasoma, although many don't believe that to be the case anymore.

Nice, could tell by the Y bar, owned a few festae, including currently a large female that actually communes. Great fish
Yah, good catch! One of the biggest tell-tale signs between Mayans and Festaes (and other cichlids and Festaes too). I never actually owned one as an adult. What else is your female in with?
