well i went to the petstore and got a new fish. its a spotted raphael catfish. i got him for $3 because the guy thought it was a pleco. hmm never had one before are they interesting? throw me some facts about this fish. ill post up pictures later.

ohh and when the guy was netting the fish for me the catfish made like some odd noises.

if you have decors in your tank, i'm pretty sure the day you put your raaphael into your tank will be the first and last time you'll see him. they spend almost all their lives hiding.

:iagree:

Sad but true.

Just make caves where you can see inside of them: Example rock propped against the glass.

They are nocturnal, like to hide during the day. Also are very slow growers. They do look awesome when they get some size on them. They look like they are as wide as they are long.

I have to disagree with most everything you said. They are a average growing catfish, idk about very slow growing. I've had mine for almost a year, and he went from 2" to 7" which is very close to full grown. Although hes not nearly as wide as he is long, they are awesome looking when larger. Mine hides day and night until he smells food, then he comes out to feast.

Hes very hard to get pictures of because of his reclusive nature, but I'm going to try next feeding time.

its happening to me right now :D :irked:. its hiding in my driftwood

They will not ever be out during the day unless someone forces them out, to temporarily rearrange their position, or mayyybe if they are really hungry. But mine, moment the light goes out he bombs around the tank eating anything he can find. They dont get long but yeah so fat

Sorry but every one has different experiences with fish growth. There are stories of these cats getting upward to 8" fast (like yours) and others that have been kept for many years that may never even reach 5". You seem to have got an exceptionally good growth rate and size to yours. I never kept any long enough to get that big-got tired of not seeing the fish. To me it was a slower growth rate than other cats Ive owned. Like I said it was probably because it was a constant hider so I never really saw the real growth.
