Got this guy today, but the store could not tell me what kind it is. It is about 5" right now. Can anyone help?

This pike has been popping up more lately, which species is kinda hard to determine though. Crenicichla frentana, Crenicichla anthurus, and Crenicichla alta are the first few guess....lol. Gorgeous pikes! You should get some more if you can!

Thanks for the assistance. I'm new to pikes, but I narrowed it down to some type of Saxatillus (sp?). They all seem to look similar though - figured you guys could help out. Any ideas on if he will color up more as he gets bigger, or if he/she will get more gold specks? Also, I paid $15 - decent price?

As it gets larger depending on whether or not if its female or male, it should get more colorful. Also depends on the species as to how much more spangling it will get. Generally though as they mature they WILL get more color and will get more robust.

$15 is indeed a pretty good price for a pike of that size and color. Congrats! If there are more, i definately suggest gettin them NOW, as trying to get some more later will be more difficult...adding them and finding them for that matter....

Nice pike and I agree with Peanut Power, looks like one of those Saxtallis. I dont know what it is but these pikes being bought as Lucius seem to be turning into these pikes as well.

i've got two juveniles crenicichlas tagged as crenicichla altamara. i've tried to research on the said name but to no avail. crenicichla alta is all i've got. i'll try to take some pics.

any information about this specie?
