My Aunt gave me $50 for Christmas and said i HAVE to use it for something for me. So I did. :)

She/He is about 11" I'm going to guess. Maybe 10".

So far, my big O just is showing it where it can and cannot go. lol
But no attacks. (my O significantly outweighs the Pike)

But this is the largest Pike I have been able to find at any LFS. They are always too small. But I finally found one (actually a whole tank full) that is plenty large enough that my Oscar and Arow wont mistake it for a meal.

Here's some pics. Not sure on sex.
I JUST added it to the tank. So still a little stressed out.

Congrats on your first pike!!! I could be worng but it looks like a juvenile Johanna to me. Enjoy!

It's a Johanna. At least, that's what it was listed as. Just wondering what sex, or if its something you can see.
Also wondering if its a good pick up. coloring and so forth.

edit: although its probably hard to tell right now since its a little stressed.

Gorgeous male johanna!!! Definitely a beauty!! Did you spend the whole $50 on it? If not, you should go back and try to grab a few females for him. ;)

They will have a clear/white stripe in the dorsal and a little on the caudal fin. Generally there will be less 'striations' on their sides as well.

There are many many Johanna variants! - anyone see the 'Red Diamond' pics last summer? or the red-finned type?
Your male has a nice herringbone pattern, could grow to 13" or 14", will lose the dark lateral when not stressed. Nice Pike ya got there!

awsome. was hoping to get some peanut power.

I did spend the whole $50. I didnt mind though since I've never seen one this large at the store and I've been looking a while.

Male huh? COOL! Was hoping to get a male.

As of today, he's already established that he isnt one to be pushed around even though he's much smaller than everyone else.
Hopefully when he's fully grown, he wont beat up my Oscar. :nilly:

I'm going to start plumping him up. Hopefully I can train him to eat mostly pellets. They offered pellets to them for me at the store and they gobbled them up, so even though he's been fed mostly minnows, I know he'll at least go for pellets.

My two females were fine in my 210 with their tankmates. For some weird reason the smaller female would mouth-wrestle with one of my male severums, but that's the extent of any drama from the pikes. They were quite well-behaved tankmates otherwise.

That's excellent that he'll take pellets! One of mine would, but the other wouldn't.

Definitely keep us updated with pics. I'm curious how the males grow out, since I've only had females.
