I got 2 jacks, about 4.5-5 inches, what seems to look like the female wants to spawn, but the male has no care? At about 5 inches each, r they ready to breed?

They are of breeding size. With many cichlids, females prefer larger males. Larger size suggests greater protection. In time when no other options are present, they may decide to breed. In the meantime, large water changes with slightly cooler water can trigger spawning. Feeding worms can also help.

Tape a mirror to one end of the tank. The male will fight with his reflection, eventually the female will notice this display and be more willing to breed

I would do both of what they said ^
