How long have you had the little guy? What is your water temperature, pH, and hardness (GH)? What are your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels? Is he breathing rapidly, or just swimming around a lot? Sorry for all the questions, but the answers to these means I might be able to give a good reason for his atypical behavior rather than just speculation like, "He is excited about his new home, and is looking for decorating ideas." :P

Okay i think it was just the night time thing, hes hiding now. what do you guys feed your rafael catfish? sorry i dont got ph or nitrate tester

Nice tank. Now go get a dang test kit! BTW, it could be very bad if one of those rocks fell off the top of the pile & cracked the glass bottom of your tank...

Being able to watch your pH and water quality is really important. If you get a big pH swing or a lot of waste build up, you could very quickly have some dead fish. I'm glad to see that he does have a place to hide. I'm not sure if you are already familiar with the process, but here is a link to the VERY important aspects of fish keeping. It is very difficult to fix a problem without knowing what is causing it.

Petsmart, Petco and your LFS will carry kits that include pH, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate. This is good starter kit that will answer your most pressing questions. :)
