Rio HyperFlow 2HF....3rd in largest of the Rio piumps, costs $74.99....Pumps 870gph on a 6ft outake tube...This pump is for the 180's wet/dry(soon to be here)....

nice... but i happen to like mag drive and will swear by them..
 
I agree I am also a big mag drive fan. You can put an elbo on the end and turn it down so you dont cavitate and suck air, so many possibilities. But I also did run a rio on a refugium before. They do work good but mag is the way to go.
 
I run a rio 10hf, and it is great for sumpless design, but for the money I would go for a mag drive too. Mags lose less gph under higher head. THe HFs drop down 300 gph from 1-4 feet, where the mags lose 50 gph over 1-3. Depending on the application, the hf is great for the money, but for a sump I'd go mag.
