Im new to these guys so could you guys give me some tip. Also they are not the hybrid ones.
 
I thought they were all hybrids?
 
Oh yeah the species is Hypsophrys nicaraguensis
 
Ahhh, common names. I thought you had hoplarchus spittacus.....the parrot cichlid. Anyway, yours can reach 10" and can be fin nippers. They do well in mildly aggressive setups, though depending on the particular fish, can be with less aggressive, or slightly more aggressive.
 
I have a male and female. The only "aggression" they show is "flirting" with each other. They grow fast and eat well, water quality seems important for coloration, just do a good water change EVERY week. Typical cichlid, acid water, low TDS, that sort of thing. Very underrated specimen. Should I say underrated twice?
