I purchased an aqua clear 50 today for my 20 gallon tank. And one thing I noticed quickly is that a lot of water by passes right above the sponge it just floats across the bio media and goes right back in the water :screwy: I did not see this with my ac110 .... Anyone know about this did I do something wrong? I would thing the bio media would get gunked up with un mechanically filtered water constantly flowing across it.

bump ttt

All AC's have bypass to a degree. The 110/500 is the 'gem' of the product line IMO. To a lesser extent the 70/300 are ok. I never cared much for the smaller ones.

add a scrubbie or two...

How would that help ? :)

When you say the water is "bypassing right above the spounge", you mean the spounge isn't completely covering the pump output?

I think I missed it is there a pump output that also pushes water from the impeller to the bottom layer of media ? It looks like the water just over flows in that compartment and runs across the bio media without ever touching the sponge..

OHHHHHH okay I know what you're talking about now. That's strange... did you try adjusting the U tube position at all?
