OK so I got my first poly in nearly 20 years the other day. When I was younger I had a palmas and another which I guess might have been a senegalus but not sure, it was patternless like a sen but the base color was darker than a sen, almost an olive green color...also it was long, close to 16" but not thick (if anyone knows what it might have been that would be cool).

Anyway...got my senegal and he's eating everything in sight which is cool. He's odd-colored, very light, almost looks like an albino but not quite that white and he has black eyes. He's kind of off-white, cream colored...the color of beach sand I guess. Anyway here's the thing, he acts really crazy. He kind of swims in circles at one end of the tank which seems odd for a poly (it's that swimming in a circle that you see barbs and some cats doing a bit). Anyone know why they do that, and if he'll stop? I guess it doesn't matter. He's very active though, when he's not doing that he's swimming all over, much more active than the polys I had before.

Oh and I definitely want to get some more :) I know sens are smaller, mine is about 7" now...what other polys can I keep with him? Are they cannibalistic or could I get a bigger one without problems? His tankmates are some peaceful cichlids (uaru, chocolate) and a Florida/spotted gar.

congrats getting back in the game.

my little del swims like it's crazy, too.

there are a lot of bichirs that get around the same size, like palmas, etc. i can't remember the list off the top of my head, but maybe someone will give it to you or it's around here somewhere if you look around enough.

OK checked out the sticky, looks like I need to stick with upper jaws, unless they're like dats and don't tend to eat their own kind. I was actually worried about my gar, he could certainly eat the senegal if he wanted to but he shows no interest in it...I've got a bunch of little cons (2-3") and he doesn't bother with them either.
