Hi All,

IMG_1284.JPG

One of my smallest RBP got bullied and bitten by the bigger ones. One huge part of the body near the arse is gone but he looks ok and still swimming around like nothing happened.

Is this alright? will it survive? Should i isolate him?

PLEASE advise!

P/S: They are now all around 5~7 inches, 10 of them in a 110G. I am going to move them into a 250G soon.

Piranha are known for their fast and strong healing. But if that will heal? I have my doubts. It looks like the enire anus is missing and i doubt that can heal itself. Healing a damaged part of an organ is one thing, but replace a complete body region with various organs is another.

Wow...Poor lil guy... Doesn't look good bro..If anything I'd take him out and isolate so the others don't continue to bite away at his open wound. I'd also add aquarium salt to help with the healing process...

I have a similair shaol, keep the water very low on nitrates and make sure their feed healthy food! Also stress coat may speed up the healing process, 10 of those guys need a bigger tank, that is the only long term solution! It may not grow in but it will heal eventually, id say 2 weeks max. GL

I would keep an eye on him and see if they will pick on him more. you might not wanna move him in a solo/ hospital tank if its not needed. trying to move him could stress him out. one of mine got bit really bad and i moved him to a solo tank and he was fine intill he was back to normal and I put him back into the shole. Idk what happend but they ended up doing it agen to him. so moving him could be bad or good, But only person that knows what best is the owner him self. he looks health so he should be fine :)

Hi all,

Thanks for the advises!

He looks OK today. This is not the first time the rest pick on this small fella. He used to get bitten on the upper fin too. If you look at the picture, you could see the scar still right in front of the upper fin. and yea, i left him in the tank and it got healed, in 1 week!!

I have added some salt to help the healing. On top of that, I've added plenty of live food into the tank to make sure they are busy on hunting the food instead of bullying him again. I am not too sure what else i could do to help the healing process, please advise if there are more.

Darius,
I doubt the anus organ is gone. I saw him pooping through the wound this morning. He should be fine doing his daily business.

Deubie,
yup, that's one concern i have to isolate the fella. They treat anything new in the tank as food. I am worried that if i move him back after isolation, they would just eat him. Anyway, he is doing fine in there now. Think they were just "having fun" biting each other....

It should heal in time although i doubt the actual body structure will develop again. My rescued Red devil (i presume) had a chunk out of him when he was smaller and he has grown into a beast. You can see a "chunk" missing from his back.
