Nice bro!

The Endli x Lapradei were bred here in Japan supposedly.
They were called "Lapen".
I had one that never grew. Got it at 11" and never got past that.
Yours looks a decent size, lucky!

Mine were Indonesian breed. It's about 18". Very slow grower especially when it was 12". I thought it will only max out at that size till it got a growth spur and hit 18" in just a few months. It stayed about 12" for 2 years.

I thought the first Lapen were the dabola as I read in some Japanese websites of pics of Dabola labeled as Lapen or Rapuen. It was way back before this endli x lap appeared.

man what a killer collection:),love them all I really like the X's you have they are great how hard were they to find and did they cost much
Not that hard just have to have connection and for the price. As for the price.... I don't know how to say it as when it comes to fish that I want prices don't matter. Cheap or expensive, they are all the same to me. Lol!

Yeah, Dabola was called "Lapen" as was Endli x Lap Hybrids that were bred by a group here called "Gef".

Then there was the big (still ongoing) argument here as to if Dabola was a new speicies or a wild hybrid of Endli x Lap.

The Gef "Lapen" had more traits and colors of Endli, and Dabola more Lap like traits and colors.

Not much study is being done so as for now dabola is just an unknown sp. However, this is just my own guest. Since bichir hybrid in captivity are have infertile males but females can still fertilized by pure breed. In the wild an endli and lap probably crossbreed but when the offspring grew all the males died out of old age, predation, out compete, disease or something else. The the female breeds with the pure breed lap, thus the looks end up more like a lap when we look at Dabola. But this is just my own theory and not scientifically true unless more study is done.

I got some endli that came from GEF came with cert that they call royal tiger endli.
