The Marineland C 360 came with 1 bag of bio balls, 2 bags of carbon, 1 bag of ceramic rings and a few foam pads. This canister weighed 25lbs with just ceramic rings and NO WATER! I cannot believe how heavy it is and how much water it can hold. I will not be using the carbon so that mean I'll be filling this tray with more ceramic rings. Since I will not being using bio balls I will be filling the tray with ceramic rings, too. This mean I will have three trays full of ceramic rings out of four total trays. The fourth tray will be foam and media floss for mechanical filter.

Is this a good idea for more beneficial bacteria? Do I need the bio balls? Is it even worth my time using this stuff? I have heard that bio balls do nothing.

Your right to scrap the bio-balls and the carbon IMO. You might add another half layer of foam and then fill the rest with ceramic rings. Let us know what you think of the cannister...It looks very well made and I trust Marinelands products but I've yet to pick one up. I like keeping as many of the same filters in servace as possible so I can stock replacement parts and switch media for new tanks.

Have you seen the video of the filter on their website?

Based on the video this filter is very promising. I just finished stacking the media basket and filling them up last night. So far it looks pretty easy to setup. I'll have it hook up and ready to go by this weekend. I'll give you an update of how it goes. From what I have read the XP3 is slightly quieter than this filter but that doesn't mean this filter is loud.

I've played Bass for 30 years and have a stereo with 2400 watts per channel....like I would be able to tell the differance.....LOL

Yes the c-360 is a monster isn't she? I agree, scrap the bioballs and load up on the ceramic rings for more beneficial bacteria. I also run a whisper 60 hob which I feel does a great job with assisting the bioload. If I could give any advice about marinelands filters is that if you need absolutely anything at all, including parts, e-mail or call them direct. They are the BEST when it comes to any kind of customer service! They just replaced my leaky C-360 with no charge to me. I will have it running by this coming weekend I can't wait.
