Honestly... I would (I did this actually) feed them one hefty feeding then its ARSE from there. As long as a fish eats, they are good right? Thats enough for me Lol.
My first pair of VATFs, I fed them for 2-3 weeks i think... then the starving began. Every ATF after that, 1 big feeding and starving began (Never lost a ATF once they started eating due to training/starving).
What I did was the following.....
Starved for 7 days from the day the last feeder disappeared. Once the 7 days hit, I would toss in a very very small amount of feeders (to me this is the biggest key). A small amount (like maybe 3 minnows per ATF) so they get something in their belly. You are not trying to get them full cause that shortens the 7 day stretch of starving as there is something in there.
Every day that there is no feeders, toss in 1 or 2 small pcs of shrimp/krill etc (whatever you are planing on feeding) and after about 4-6hrs, take it out.
I would make the shrimp splash the water a lil to get their attention.
My first 2 ATFs I was very impatient and it took me 2-3 months to get them off live.
I had a diff one that was broken off live in maybe a week or a little over (I had zero success with any GATF I ever owned). Once the ATFs start spitting out the food... its a matter of time before they SWALLOW
I am far from an expert on ATFs but just shared my personal experience on them
