actually, do you know how to ship fish? ill pay u to snag me that smaller one and ship it my way! im dead serious too.

that is a very nicely marked WEEKSII !!! i would have picked the same one :)
they are the second largest upper jaw next to the ornate.
biggest head and largest mouth though.
my lfs mislabels them as congicus too.

great pick up! i would pick the middle one as well.

and xrayz is right, these are weeksii.

I love the stripes on them, very bold.

That is definitely Polypterus weeksii and not Polypterus endlicheri congicus. Still...that is a VERY nice P. weeksii.

Here are some pics for comparison:

pecongicus9.jpg

Polypterus endlicheri congicus - a young specimen but you get the general idea. Note the very flattened head and the fact that the lower jaw extends farther forward than the lower jaw. Also note that P. endlicheri congicus does not have the dark line extending downward from the rear of its jaws.

Pweeksii1.jpg

Polypterus weeksii - a young adult specimen. Note the rounded head and the fact that the lower jaw is actually slightly shorter than the upper jaw. Also note that P. weeksii has a dark line extending diagonally downward from the rear of its jaws.

I agree, it's a very nicely marked P.weeksi. Using Fruitbat's examples look at the placement of the dorsal finlets! P.end.congicus has their finlets beginning farther forward almost right behind the pectoral fins! P.weeksi has theirs beginning closer to the mid-length area along the back! Finlet count and their placement are much more reliable determining factors in deciding what it is you may have than just using coloration and markings.
